Alison Andrews Biography

Alison Andrews started singing and playing piano as a small child, banging out chords to accompany her favorite songs. In her teen years she honed her abilities in a gospel choir. When she moved to London in her early twenties, she began songwriting and recorded her first demo CD, using that to get prestigious gigs at the Kashmir Klub and The Orange. Having spent a year performing in musical theater productions, Alison's influences are a mix of gospel, musical theater and the music she loves, such as Tracy Chapman, Tom McCrae, Snow Patrol and old school loves such as Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Funghi Gone West In his early twenties Jaye was playing on the punk scene in successful South African band Funghi Gone West. Having fallen in love with guitar as a teenager Jaye co-wrote most of their punk repertoire. When the band broke up, Jaye began to experiment with different styles such as jazz, folk, pop and rock. Jaye's influences range from punk bands such as Bad Religion and jazz greats such as Louis Armstrong and pop icons like The Beatles! Alison and Jaye When Alison and Jaye got together in 2005, they didn't immediately start playing together, though it was clear that Alison as a singer/songwriter and Jaye as a guitarist/songwriter, could certainly benefit from each others talents.

However, fear of creative differences causing a rift in their relationship had them wary. By 2006 they put that aside and formed the Cape Town band, The Shade (pictured below).

Spring ScreamAfter moving to Taiwan in 2007, Alison and Jaye began to gig regularly and their sound gradually changed from the rock sound of The Shade, to the more chilled out folk with a punk edge that defines their sound today. After playing at Taiwan's Spring Scream festival in April 2008, Alison and Jaye moved to Dubai and began writing material for their debut album, Love's A Cure.

Love's A CureLove's A Cure was recorded in New York City and is currently in post production. The focus for 2010 is the release of their album, however they may also perform live occasionally. If you would like Alison Andrews to perform at an event, use the
