What is Desperately Seeking Jude: Confessions Of A Sex-Mad Beauty Queen actually about?

The book is about my life growing up on the wrong side of the tracks of a small town with an alcoholic violent father and a mother frequently on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

I tried to cope with the chaos of my surroundings by retreating into a dream world, drawing in the air and trying to memorize lines from TV shows, but I could never get them out right because of my stutter.

We were frequently penniless and without food and moved from house to house with a succession of misfit house guests that we picked up along the way.

In my teens I struggled with a sense of worthlessness and an emptiness that I would do almost anything to escape. Between singing in a Baptist Choir, dabbling in modeling and becoming a Beauty Queen I turned to sex, booze and drugs to fill the gap.

The story is set in the Apartheid South Africa of the 80's and 90's and then on the fringes of the music scene in drug fueled contemporary London.
